India's FY27 growth likely to exceed 7% despite second-half headwinds

India's gross domestic product growth trajectory for fiscal 2027 is projected to remain robust above 7%, maintaining momentum despite emerging pressures that could temper expansion in the second half of the year, according to economists at DBS Bank.

Rising international crude oil prices, combined with mounting cost pressures across sectors, are anticipated to create headwinds for the Indian economy in the latter half of FY27. Additionally, uncertainty surrounding consumer spending patterns presents a variable that policymakers and businesses will need to navigate in the coming months.

Despite these near-term challenges, the full-year growth outlook remains supportive, underpinned by structural strengths in the Indian economy and continued policy support. The slowdown expected in the second half appears moderate enough not to derail the overall growth narrative for the fiscal year.

The analysis suggests India's economy will likely weather external pressures and demand-side uncertainties while maintaining a growth rate that positions it among the world's faster-expanding major economies. However, stakeholders across sectors are urged to monitor commodity price movements and consumer sentiment indicators closely as the fiscal year progresses.
