India's gross GST collections climbed 23 percent to Rs 2.31 lakh crore in October, signaling sustained momentum in tax revenues and underlying economic performance. The expansion was powered by dual engines: domestic sales and import-linked revenues both posting strong gains during the month.

Domestic GST collections from internal sales rose 16 percent to over Rs 1.59 lakh crore, indicating healthy consumer spending and business activity across the country's manufacturing and services sectors. The growth in domestic revenues reflects continued operational recovery and transaction volumes in the formal economy.

Import-related GST revenues posted a more impressive performance, climbing 42 percent to Rs 72,246 crore. The sharp increase in import duties underscores higher volumes of overseas purchases and suggests robust demand for foreign goods and raw materials across Indian industries.

The combined performance points to broad-based economic resilience, with both internal consumption patterns and international trade activity contributing meaningfully to government revenues. The figures continue a trajectory of consistent GST collection growth that has supported India's fiscal position throughout the current financial year.
