India's net Goods and Services Tax collections climbed 25.6 per cent to ₹2.03 trillion in October, marking the strongest expansion seen so far in financial year 2026-27. Gross GST revenues during the same month increased 22.9 per cent to ₹2.31 trillion, reflecting broad-based strength across the indirect tax system.
Import-linked GST revenue emerged as the primary driver of October's robust performance, signalling sustained demand for overseas goods and materials despite global headwinds. This segment has consistently contributed to the overall growth trajectory, suggesting continued reliance on imported inputs for domestic consumption and manufacturing.
The double-digit growth in both net and gross collections points to expanding economic activity across multiple sectors. Tax officials attribute the momentum to increased commercial transactions, rising consumer demand, and elevated business investment ahead of the festive season.
The October figures come as policymakers monitor GST compliance and collection trends closely. The sustained revenue growth provides the government with additional fiscal headroom for spending and investment priorities outlined in the current fiscal year's budget.
