India's net GST revenue surged 18.1 per cent year-on-year to ₹1.77 trillion in September, the fastest growth rate recorded in the past six months, signalling healthy economic activity across sectors.
Gross GST collections climbed 14.7 per cent to ₹2.04 trillion during the same month, reflecting a broad-based expansion in consumption and commercial transactions. The acceleration in net collections outpaced the gross figure, suggesting improved tax compliance and administration efficiency.
Over the July-September quarter, net revenue growth stabilised around 14 per cent, demonstrating consistent performance across the three-month period. The sequential acceleration in September indicates improving momentum heading into the final quarter of the financial year.
The data comes as the government continues to monitor GST trends as a key barometer of economic health. Strong tax collections have historically correlated with robust consumer spending and industrial activity, providing policymakers with real-time insights into demand conditions across both formal and informal sectors.
