India's industrial output growth quickened to 8 per cent in August, reflecting broad-based improvement across key sectors of the economy. The uptick marks a notable acceleration from previous months and underscores the resilience of manufacturing activity in the world's fifth-largest economy.
Manufacturing output expanded 9 per cent during the month, reaching its second-highest level in nearly 29 months. The sector's robust performance reflected increased production across multiple industries, suggesting improved capacity utilisation and sustained demand from both domestic and export markets.
Electricity and gas supply showed particularly strong expansion, growing 12.3 per cent in August. The surge in power generation points to heightened economic activity and industrial consumption, as factories ramp up operations to meet rising orders.
The overall industrial output growth encompasses three main components—manufacturing, mining, and utilities—with August's figures indicating a healthy recovery trajectory across the board. Analysts are watching the trend closely to gauge whether the momentum can be sustained in coming months, particularly amid global economic uncertainties.
