India's outsourcing and information technology services sector continues to expand its economic significance even as artificial intelligence reshapes the global employment landscape, according to recent analysis.
Software services exports have grown to represent 5.2 per cent of India's gross domestic product, a substantial increase from 3.3 per cent before the COVID-19 pandemic. The business services segment has demonstrated similarly robust growth, more than doubling its share to account for 3.3 per cent of GDP.
The sector's expansion reflects India's sustained competitive advantages in global digital markets, particularly its deep talent pool and established service delivery infrastructure. The growth trajectory suggests that despite disruptions from emerging technologies, traditional outsourcing and IT services remain central to India's economic structure and export earnings.
Industry observers note that while artificial intelligence continues to reshape job requirements and skill sets across the sector, the overall demand for India's IT and business services expertise has proven resilient. The sector's ability to maintain growth while navigating technological transitions underscores its adaptive capacity and continued relevance in serving multinational corporations and global enterprises seeking cost-effective service delivery.
