Employment expansion across Indian industries is expected to accelerate to 5.4 percent in the October-March period of the current financial year, according to staffing company TeamLease Services' latest Employment Outlook Report released Thursday. The figure represents a significant jump from the 4.7 percent net employment change recorded in the first half and constitutes the highest growth rate over the past four half-year periods.
The anticipated hiring surge will be led by the e-commerce and technology startup sectors, alongside travel, hospitality, and retail industries. Balasubramanian A, Senior Vice President at TeamLease Services, attributed the optimistic outlook to businesses aligning their talent acquisition strategies more closely with evolving market demands. "The employment growth of 5.4 percent expected in H2 of FY27 reflects a shift towards more targeted workforce expansion," he said.
However, industry leaders acknowledge that translating these hiring plans into actual workforce capability gains will pose challenges. Employers are being urged to broaden their talent recruitment pools, accelerate skills development programmes, and embrace new hiring methodologies to meet the surge in demand. The expansion signals growing business confidence across key sectors of India's economy, though execution of recruitment strategies at scale remains critical for sustained growth.
