India's ministry of mines has launched auctions for two limestone blocks located in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir as part of efforts to boost mineral development in the region. The Koot-Kapran block is estimated to contain 4.75 million tonnes of limestone reserves, while the Wantrag block holds an estimated 10.853 million tonnes. The auction represents the government's strategy to unlock mineral resources in the Union territory and attract investment in the mining sector. Limestone is a key raw material for cement production, steel manufacturing, and various chemical industries, making these reserves commercially significant. The move aligns with the central government's broader push to streamline mineral extraction through competitive bidding and transparent auction mechanisms across India's mining sector.
