India's multimodal AI adoption set to nearly double by 2030
Daily use of multimodal artificial intelligence in India is projected to surge to 43 per cent by 2030, outpacing global growth trends. The expansion will reshape consumer behaviour and place unprecedented demands on mobile networks across the country.

India is poised to emerge as a global leader in multimodal AI adoption, with daily usage expected to nearly double to 43 per cent by the end of the decade from the current 22 per cent, according to findings from Ericsson ConsumerLab. The projected growth significantly exceeds global estimates, which forecast multimodal AI use reaching 30 per cent internationally by 2030, up from 10 per cent today.
Multimodal AI encompasses interactions spanning text, voice, images and video, reflecting a fundamental shift in how consumers engage with artificial intelligence. Rather than sporadic, isolated interactions, Indians are increasingly integrating AI tools into their daily routines across multiple devices and locations, signalling a transition towards seamless, ubiquitous AI experiences.
The rapid proliferation of multimodal AI usage will impose substantial new requirements on India's mobile network infrastructure. As consumers leverage AI services while on the move and generate increasing volumes of image, video and voice content, network traffic patterns are expected to shift markedly towards upload-heavy operations with uneven distribution across geographic regions and time periods.
These evolving usage patterns underscore the critical importance of robust network responsiveness and enhanced uplink capacity for telecommunications providers. The ability to reliably deliver multimodal AI experiences across diverse mobile environments will become essential as the technology becomes integral to how consumers search, create and communicate.
