India's real gross domestic product growth accelerated to 7.8 per cent in the April-June quarter, surpassing the Reserve Bank of India's 7 per cent forecast for the period, according to figures released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on Monday.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman attributed the robust performance to structural reforms implemented by the National Democratic Alliance government combined with pragmatic economic stewardship. "The credit for this strong performance goes to the people of India and their hard work," Sitharaman said in a statement, adding that the government remains focused on broadening economic opportunities across the country.
Beyond the real GDP metric, nominal GDP growth in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27 reached 10.3 per cent, while gross value added, a broader measure of economic output, expanded by 8.2 per cent, the statistical agency reported.
The first-quarter performance reflects sustained momentum in India's economy amid global uncertainties, with growth indicators pointing to resilience across key sectors. The government has signalled its commitment to maintaining this growth trajectory through continued structural reforms and adaptive policy measures.
