The conventional security paradigm that has defined India's law enforcement strategy for decades no longer applies, according to Govind Mohan, who addressed newly commissioned police officers at the Sardar Vallabhbhai National Police Academy in Hyderabad on Saturday.
Addressing the passing-out parade of the 78th Regular Recruit batch of the Indian Police Service, Mohan conveyed Union Home Minister Amit Shah's message emphasising an uncompromising stance against terrorism, coupled with expedited operational response and strengthened intelligence coordination across agencies.
The Home Secretary highlighted the critical role young officers will play in fortifying India's borders through the Centre's Smart Border Initiative, a multi-faceted approach integrating cutting-edge surveillance technology, digital infrastructure and enhanced inter-agency coordination. Modern techniques and integrated systems form the backbone of this initiative aimed at strengthening border security.
Mohan underscored the need for coordinated action against drug trafficking networks, advocating for technology-driven investigation methodologies and sustained public awareness campaigns. The evolving threat landscape demands that law enforcement agencies adapt their strategies to counter emerging transnational crimes while maintaining vigilance against conventional security challenges.
