India's semiconductor sector attracts $1.4bn in equity funding

India's semiconductor industry has mobilised $1.4 billion in cumulative equity funding across 281 companies, with $701 million—roughly half the total—raised since the start of 2025, according to data from venture intelligence platform Tracxn.

The surge in capital deployment underscores growing momentum in a sector that India has positioned as critical to its technology and manufacturing ambitions. The country is home to 3,557 companies operating in semiconductors, though only 142 have secured equity funding to date. So far in 2026, the sector has raised $228 million, Tracxn reported.

The funding acceleration comes as India prepares to host SEMICON India 2026, the country's premier semiconductor conference, from September 17-19 at Yashobhoomi in Dwarka, New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the fifth edition of the event, which will convene global semiconductor leaders, government officials, and industry experts to discuss India's expanding chipmaking ecosystem.

The conference will provide a platform for stakeholders to explore investment opportunities and policy frameworks as India aims to strengthen its position in semiconductor design, manufacturing, and supply chains.
