India's Shafali Verma penalised for ICC Code of Conduct breach

Shafali Verma has been sanctioned by cricket's global governing body for breaching Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel during India's second T20I fixture against Zimbabwe. The violation, classified as Level 1, resulted in both a formal reprimand and the accumulation of a demerit point on her disciplinary record.

Article 2.2 pertains to abusive conduct during international matches. The breach occurred during Sunday's encounter between the two nations as part of their ongoing T20 series. Level 1 offences represent the lowest category of Code of Conduct violations under ICC regulations.

The demerit point system operates cumulatively, with players accumulating points throughout their careers. Under current ICC regulations, the accumulation of demerit points over set periods can lead to progressively severe penalties, ranging from fines to match suspensions.

Shafali, one of India's leading opening batswomen, has been a key player in the national team's recent campaigns. The reprimand marks a rare disciplinary action for the prominent batter.
