Shafali Verma has been officially reprimanded by the International Cricket Council for breaching its Code of Conduct during India's nine-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the second T20I on Sunday.
The 22-year-old batter was found to have violated Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which prohibits abuse of cricket equipment or ground fixtures during international matches. The incident occurred during the 12th over of Zimbabwe's innings when Verma, after dropping Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano at mid-off, threw the ball to the ground in frustration.
In addition to the formal reprimand, one demerit point has been added to Verma's disciplinary record. As this was her first offence within a 24-month period, the sanction remains at Level 1 of the ICC's disciplinary framework.
Verma acknowledged the breach and accepted the proposed sanction, bringing the matter to a swift conclusion. The incident marks a rare disciplinary action against the Indian vice-captain as she continues to lead the team's aggressive approach in the ongoing series against Zimbabwe.
