India's software exports surge 8.2% to $221.4 billion in FY26

India's information technology services industry sustained its growth momentum in FY26, as software exports increased by 8.2 percent year-on-year to $221.4 billion, according to data released by the Reserve Bank of India. The expansion reflects the continued global demand for Indian IT expertise and digital solutions across multiple sectors and geographies.

Computer services emerged as the primary growth driver for the sector during the period. This category encompasses a broad range of offerings, from software development and consulting to infrastructure management and cloud-based solutions that Indian firms provide to multinational corporations and enterprises worldwide.

Geographically, the United States maintained its position as India's largest market for software exports, capturing 54.1 percent of total shipments. This concentration underscores the deep integration between Indian technology companies and American enterprises, as well as the continued reliance of US corporations on offshore development and IT services.

The growth trajectory in FY26 indicates resilience in India's software services industry despite global economic headwinds and competitive pressures from other nations. The sector continues to generate substantial foreign exchange inflows for the country while creating high-value employment opportunities across metropolitan areas and emerging tech hubs.
