India's wind capacity could reach 250 GW by 2035, says Suzlon chief
Industry leaders expect India's wind power sector to accelerate significantly over the next decade, with the country on track to achieve 100 GW of capacity by 2030 and potentially double that by mid-decade.

India's wind energy sector is poised for substantial expansion, with industry executives projecting the nation could accumulate as much as 250 GW of installed wind capacity by 2035. Suzlon Energy's chairman Girish Tanti highlighted the sector's growth trajectory, noting that rising electricity demand across the country is likely to drive upward revisions to government capacity targets.
The sector is expected to achieve 100 GW of wind capacity by 2030, marking a significant milestone in India's renewable energy transition. This expansion would align with the country's broader climate commitments and the need to diversify its energy mix away from fossil fuels.
Tanti suggested that grid infrastructure constraints, which have historically limited renewable energy deployment in certain regions, are expected to ease in coming years. Improved transmission and distribution networks, along with advancing battery storage technologies, should facilitate smoother integration of wind power into the national electricity system.
The growth outlook reflects India's vast wind resources, particularly in coastal regions and the Deccan plateau, combined with falling equipment costs and improved turbine efficiency. As manufacturing capacity expands and domestic supply chains mature, the sector is positioned to attract continued investment from both domestic and international players.
