India seeks stable ties with China as Xi prepares New Delhi visit
India's top diplomat has called for predictable and amicable relations with China ahead of President Xi Jinping's visit to attend the BRICS summit in New Delhi this week. The visit marks Xi's first trip to India in nearly seven years.

Indian Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami has emphasized the need for maintaining stable and predictable bilateral ties between India and China, as Chinese President Xi Jinping prepares to visit New Delhi for the 18th BRICS Summit scheduled for September 12-13.
The ambassador stressed that a robust relationship between the two nations serves mutual interests given their combined population of 2.8 billion people. "A stable, predictable and amicable relationship between India and China is not only in the interest of our 2.8 billion people, but is also a significant factor for peace, stability and prosperity in Asia and the wider world," Doraiswami said in remarks published in the Global Times.
Xi's visit represents his first trip to India since 2016, and is expected to provide an opportunity for bilateral engagement. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to hold talks with the Chinese leader on the margins of the BRICS gathering, offering a platform for discussions on key bilateral issues.
The ambassador underscored the importance of both nations working together on global governance matters, noting that India and China share interests in ensuring international structures reflect the aspirations of the developing world as the global landscape continues to evolve.
