India, Singapore strengthen ties with pacts on telecom, food safety

New Delhi — India and Singapore formalized their commitment to closer cooperation by signing two memorandums of understanding and exchanging a Letter of Intent on Thursday, covering critical sectors including telecommunications regulation, broadcasting standards, maritime heritage conservation, and food safety protocols.

The agreements were concluded during the 4th India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable, with India's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presiding alongside External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, and Minister of State for Electronics & IT Jitin Prasada. Singapore's delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister and Trade & Industry Minister Gan Kim Yong, along with Senior Minister K Shanmugam and other senior officials.

"These agreements will further strengthen bilateral cooperation across diverse areas of mutual interest," India's Finance Ministry said in a statement, underscoring the strategic importance of the pacts for both nations.

The accord represents the latest milestone in India-Singapore relations, which have expanded significantly across economic, cultural, and security dimensions in recent years. The focus on telecommunications and broadcasting regulations reflects both nations' commitment to digital governance, while the maritime heritage and food safety provisions address shared regional priorities and consumer protection standards.

Both countries have identified mutual growth opportunities in these sectors, with implementation frameworks expected to follow in the coming months.
