The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced a venue change for the opening One-Day International of the India-Sri Lanka series after the Delhi and District Cricket Association cited environmental and infrastructure concerns. The decision was made to ensure optimal playing conditions and accommodate ongoing renovation work at the scheduled venue in the national capital.

Air pollution levels in Delhi during winter months have become an increasing concern for international sporting events, with poor air quality potentially affecting player performance and match scheduling. The BCCI's decision prioritises the health and safety of all participants while maintaining the integrity of the contest.

The renovation work at the Delhi venue, which has been a key focus for infrastructure upgrades, also factored into the timing of the relocation. By moving the fixture, the BCCI has ensured that neither the construction schedule nor environmental conditions would disrupt the series.

The alternate venue for the first ODI has been confirmed as part of rescheduling efforts. This marks another instance of Indian cricket administrators adapting fixture schedules to address environmental challenges that have become more prominent in recent years. The remaining ODIs are expected to proceed as originally planned, weather and circumstances permitting.
