India strikes silver in women's 10m air rifle at Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games
India opened its shooting campaign at the 20th Asian Games with a silver medal in the women's 10m air rifle team event on Sunday. The trio of Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa Vinod scored 1898.0 points to finish behind China's world-record performance.

India's shooting contingent at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games got off to a promising start with a silver medal in the women's 10m air rifle team competition. Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa Vinod combined for a total of 1898.0 points to secure the second position on Sunday.
China dominated the event with a world-record score of 1904.2 points, while hosts Japan claimed the bronze medal with 1897.1 points. Sonam emerged as the top Indian scorer with 634.1 points, followed by Elavenil at 633.5 and Vidarsa with 630.4 points.
The silver medal marks India's first confirmed medal at the 20th Asian Games. MMA fighter Suchika Tariyal had earlier assured a medal by advancing to the women's Traditional MMA 60kg semifinals.
Both Elavenil and Sonam have qualified for the individual final in the women's 10m air rifle event, scheduled to take place later in the day. The pair will aim to add individual medals to India's tally as the shooting campaign progresses.
