India targets trade agreement with Chile completion by year-end

India has reiterated its determination to conclude a comprehensive trade agreement with Chile by the end of this year, signalling accelerated progress in negotiations between the two countries. The commitment was conveyed during talks between India's Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal and Paula Estévez Weinstein, Chile's Vice-Minister of International Economic Relations, held in Santiago.

The bilateral engagement reflects both nations' interest in strengthening commercial ties across multiple sectors. Such trade pacts typically cover tariff reductions, market access provisions, and regulatory frameworks to facilitate smoother business operations between trading partners.

India has been actively pursuing trade agreements across the Asia-Pacific region as part of its broader economic strategy. A successful conclusion with Chile would expand New Delhi's trade footprint in South America and create fresh opportunities for Indian exporters in sectors ranging from pharmaceuticals to information technology.

The timeline for finalising the agreement by year-end suggests both governments view the negotiation as a priority. Officials from both nations are expected to undertake intensive rounds of discussions in the coming months to address outstanding issues and align on key provisions.
