India to accept e-boarding passes for international departures from September
International passengers departing from Indian airports will be permitted to use digital boarding passes at immigration checkpoints from September 1, marking a shift toward paperless travel documentation. Physical boarding passes will continue to be accepted, though they will no longer be stamped by immigration officials.

The move comes as India's aviation and immigration authorities modernize travel processes to streamline departures for international flyers. The adoption of e-boarding passes aligns with global industry standards and reduces reliance on printed documentation at immigration counters.
Under the new arrangement, passengers will be able to present their boarding passes in digital format via their mobile devices or email confirmations. Immigration officials will process these electronic documents alongside traditional identity verification procedures.
While physical boarding passes will remain valid for use, they will no longer receive the standard immigration stamp that has been routine practice. Airlines and airport operators are expected to inform passengers of the change ahead of the September 1 implementation date.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance airport operations and reduce paper consumption. Passengers are advised to ensure they have reliable access to their digital boarding passes before proceeding through immigration during international departures.
