India to establish dedicated quantum, AI university in Andhra Pradesh
The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology will set up a ₹730-crore campus in Amaravati, marking the country's first dedicated facility for quantum computing and artificial intelligence education. Academic programmes are slated to commence in September 2026.

India is moving forward with plans to establish its first university campus dedicated exclusively to quantum computing and artificial intelligence, with the facility to be located in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh. The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) will oversee the development of the campus, which carries a projected cost of ₹730 crore.
The Government of India will fully fund the initiative through grant-in-aid support, underscoring the strategic importance placed on developing expertise in emerging technologies. The facility is expected to position India as a hub for advanced research and development in quantum computing and AI applications.
Academic and skill-development programmes will commence from September 2026, ahead of the permanent campus's completion. A temporary facility has been arranged at Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur to enable the institute to begin enrolling students and launching courses at the scheduled date.
The establishment of a dedicated quantum and AI university reflects India's broader push to build domestic capabilities in critical technologies and reduce dependence on foreign expertise. The campus is expected to offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes alongside professional skill-development courses designed to meet industry requirements.
