India to face Sri Lanka in Asian Games cricket semifinals
The Indian men's cricket team has secured a spot in the semifinals of the Asian Games 2026 cricket tournament in Nagoya, where they will face Sri Lanka on October 1. Sri Lanka advanced to the last four after their quarterfinal against Nepal was abandoned due to persistent rainfall.

Sri Lanka's progression to the semifinals came courtesy of their higher ranking in the tournament standings, as their quarterfinal match against Nepal could not be completed owing to inclement weather conditions in the Japanese city. While Sri Lanka are ranked ninth in the team standings, Nepal occupy the 14th position, making the rankings the deciding factor in their advancement.
The Indian men's team, captained by Shreyas Iyer, has yet to take the field at Korogi Sports Park, with their own quarterfinal also succumbing to the persistent rainfall that has disrupted all four quarterfinal encounters throughout the competition. The consistent wet weather has forced the rescheduling of multiple matches across the tournament.
The second semifinal will pit Pakistan against Bangladesh, with both semifinals scheduled to take place on Thursday. The women's cricket competition at the Asian Games, won by Harmanpreet Kaur's team, was also hosted at the same venue.
