The Union government has announced plans to release a commemorative coin celebrating the centenary of Uttam Kumar, one of Bengali cinema's most iconic figures. According to a gazette notification dated September 3, the special ₹100 coin will be minted in 99.9 per cent pure silver, meeting the highest standards of precious metal coinage.
The coin will measure 44 millimetres in diameter, a size selected to ensure prominent display of design elements honouring the legendary actor. Details regarding the artistic design and inscription on the commemorative piece are expected to be finalized as per standard government protocols for such releases.
