Mhatre underwent the procedure at Mumbai's Kokilaben Hospital on Thursday, with the surgery performed by Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, according to BCCI sources. The operation addresses a Grade 4 tear in his right hamstring suffered during the opening day of Mumbai's Ranji Trophy season opener against Chandigarh on October 11, when the injury occurred while running between the wickets.
The surgery has progressed successfully, with medical staff confirming that Mhatre is recovering well. As of Friday morning, he had begun early mobilisation using crutches, marking a positive trajectory in his rehabilitation journey. The expected recovery timeline places his return to competitive cricket in early 2025.
This marks the second hamstring injury setback for the talented batsman in recent months. Mhatre was previously sidelined from a left hamstring injury during the IPL season, incurred while playing for Chennai Super Kings against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18. His participation in Mumbai's domestic cricket campaign has been significantly impacted by these recurring soft tissue issues.
