India urged to create mandatory intersex birth registry linked to civil records

Gopi Shankar has recommended that Indian states establish mandatory birth registries specifically for individuals with differences or disorders of sex development, commonly referred to as intersex conditions. The registry would be linked directly to the civil registration system to ensure comprehensive documentation from birth.

The proposal addresses a significant gap in India's current administrative framework, where intersex individuals often face challenges in obtaining accurate vital records and legal recognition.
