India, Uzbekistan to expand ties in trade, defence and energy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev agreed Sunday to deepen India-Uzbekistan cooperation in trade and investment, digital connectivity, defence and energy during delegation-level talks in Tashkent. Modi received a ceremonial welcome as he commenced the second day of his two-day state visit to the Central Asian nation, his fourth visit overall.

The talks focused on strengthening the India-Uzbekistan strategic partnership and aligning the two nations' developmental visions of 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India) and 'Yangi Uzbekistan' (New Uzbekistan). Both leaders discussed concrete mechanisms to advance cooperation in key sectors critical to regional stability and economic growth.

Modi arrived in Uzbekistan on August 29 at Mirziyoyev's invitation. Prior to the formal talks, the Prime Minister noted that the bilateral strategic partnership had achieved significant momentum in recent years, signalling his commitment to expanding engagement across multiple domains. The discussions reflected both nations' intent to translate strategic intent into concrete developmental outcomes for their respective populations.
