Suhas Subramanyam retained his House seat with over 61.5 per cent of the vote, decisively outpacing Republican contender Dave Beckwith, who garnered 36.4 per cent of ballots cast. The victory underscores Subramanyam's continued support among voters in the competitive Virginia district.
Born in Houston to Indian immigrant parents, Subramanyam has built a career centered on public service and policy work. He earned his law degree with distinction from Northwestern University and subsequently served as a technology policy advisor to President Barack Obama during his White House tenure.
Before his election to Congress, Subramanyam worked on Capitol Hill as a policy aide, where he focused on expanding healthcare access, building bipartisan support for immigration reform, and drafting legislation to enhance employment opportunities and funding for veterans and working families. His commitment to community service began during his college years at Tulane University in New Orleans, where he coordinated volunteer efforts to rebuild Hurricane Katrina-affected communities.
Subramanyam's re-election represents a notable achievement for Indian-American representation in the U.S. House of Representatives, reflecting growing political participation among South Asian Americans in mainstream American politics.
