Indian archers Bommadevara, Chauhan advance to Asiad recurve quarterfinals
India's recurve archery contingent made significant strides at the Asian Games on Tuesday, with Dhiraj Bommadevara and Neeraj Chauhan both securing quarterfinal spots through commanding performances in the elimination rounds.

Bommadevara and Chauhan progressed through separate paths to the last eight, with both archers delivering under pressure in their respective 1/8 elimination matchups. Chauhan produced a standout performance to upset South Korea's Kim Je Deok, a decorated three-time Olympic gold medallist, winning 6-4 with a nail-biting final set that ended 29-27. Bommadevara meanwhile dispatched Chinese Taipei's Cheng Hsiang-Hui 6-2, securing set scores of 29-27, 27-28, 30-28, and 29-28.
Earlier in the day, both Indian archers had shown their mettle in the 1/16 round. Bommadevara dominated the Philippines' Girvin Cullen Nigel Garcia 6-0, while Chauhan recovered from an early deficit to beat Indonesia's Riau Ega Agata Salsabilla 6-4 in a closely contested match that went the full distance.
The quarterfinal matchups have been confirmed, with Bommadevara facing Uzbekistan's Amirkhon Sadikov while Chauhan takes on Bhutan's Lam Dorji. The results underscore India's growing strength in recurve archery on the continental stage. Later in the day, Indian archers Kirti and Kumkum Mohod Anil are set to compete in the women's recurve individual event.
