Indian Bank aims to maintain its expansion momentum by opening around 100 branches during the current fiscal year, with a strategic focus on strengthening its presence in Central and Western regions, according to Managing Director and Chief Executive Binod Kumar.
The seventh-largest public sector bank has already inaugurated 15 branches on its foundation day on August 15, as part of the expansion drive. "Last year we opened 100 branches. This year too we have similar plans," Kumar said in an interaction with media.
The expansion strategy reflects the bank's efforts to consolidate market position following the 2020 amalgamation of Allahabad Bank, which had significantly bolstered its presence in Eastern India and Uttar Pradesh. "Now we are trying to increase our presence in the Central and Western parts of the country," Kumar added.
To support this growth trajectory, Indian Bank plans to recruit approximately 2,500 personnel, including specialist officers, to manage expanding operations and address workforce gaps created by retirements. As of June 30, 2026, the bank operated 6,003 domestic branches, along with overseas branches in Singapore, Colombo, and Jaffna, and an IFSC Banking Unit in Gandhinagar.
