Indian banks to remain closed for 10 days in mid-October

Banks across India will observe extended closures during the second fortnight of October 2026, with approximately 10 non-working days affecting customers in various regions. The shutdowns coincide with major religious and cultural festivals including Durga Puja, Dussehra, Lakshmi Puja, and Karva Chauth, which fall on different dates across India's diverse calendar observances.

The closure period runs from October 15-31, during which multiple cities will witness bank branch shutdowns on festival dates specific to their regions. In addition to festival-related holidays, banks will remain closed on all Sundays throughout October, as well as on the fourth Saturday of the month, following standard banking regulations.

Customers requiring banking services during this period should plan ahead and complete urgent transactions before the holiday season begins. Online banking platforms and ATM services are expected to remain operational during the closure period, providing limited access to essential banking functions.

Financial institutions have advised customers to check with their respective banks for location-specific holiday calendars, as the exact closure dates may vary depending on regional festival observances and state-specific notifications issued by the Reserve Bank of India.
