Indian bourses shut for Ganesh Chaturthi festival celebrations

India's two primary stock exchanges—the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)—remained closed on Monday in observance of Ganesh Chaturthi, one of the country's major Hindu festivals dedicated to Lord Ganesha.
The closure affected all market segments, including equities, derivatives, and the securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segment. No trading or settlement operations were conducted across these platforms during the festive day.
Ganesh Chaturthi, typically celebrated in August or September, is a ten-day festival that holds significant cultural importance across India, particularly in Maharashtra and other regions. The market holiday reflects India's practice of closing financial markets on major national and religious celebrations.
Traders and market participants were advised to resume normal operations following the festival observance. The suspension did not affect overseas markets or trading outside the Indian stock exchange ecosystem.
