Indian boxers Hooda, Panghal advance to Asian Games gold medal bouts

Parveen Hooda delivered a commanding performance in the women's 65kg semifinal, defeating China's Li Shu 5-0 to book her spot in the championship bout. Her victory came after a dominant display that left no room for doubt about her superiority in the ring.

In the men's 80kg division, Ankush Panghal staged a comeback victory, outpointing Uzbekistan's Fazliddin Erkinboev 4-1 in a closely contested semifinal. The win against the reigning 75kg world champion underscores Panghal's growing credentials at the Games.

Hooda's achievement marks a significant milestone in her career. She has now surpassed her medal tally from the previous Asian Games edition and becomes only the third Indian female boxer to reach a Games final, following in the footsteps of legendary MC Mary Kom, who claimed gold in 2014, and Lovlina Borgohain, who secured silver in the last edition.

India's boxing contingent has demonstrated remarkable strength at this year's Games. With six boxers now assured of medal-round positions, the nation has already exceeded its four-medal haul from the previous edition, signalling a significant improvement in the sport's development pathway across the country.
