Indian civil servants seek extra Deepavali holiday on November 10

PUTRAJAYA — The Putrajaya Indian Civil Servants Association (Imaiyam) has petitioned the government to declare November 10 as an extra public holiday to observe Deepavali, following a similar arrangement granted to civil servants last year.

The appeal comes as Deepavali this year falls on November 1, a Friday. According to the association, the request mirrors the accommodation made in 2023, when the festival coincided with a weekend and an additional day was provided to allow proper celebration.

Imaiyam contends that the measure would enable Indian civil servants and their families to fully participate in Deepavali festivities without disruption to work schedules. The association has submitted its formal request to the relevant authorities in Putrajaya for consideration.

The move reflects ongoing efforts by Indian community representatives to secure workplace flexibility during major religious and cultural observances. Such requests are typically evaluated by the Public Service Department in consultation with other government agencies before any official decision is announced.
