Indian Coast Guard rescues foreign tanker from sinking off Odisha

The Indian Coast Guard deployed a specialized damage control team to the distressed MT Seagull 9 after receiving reports of engine failure and subsequent flooding in the vessel's ballast tank off the Paradip coast on Wednesday. The timely intervention prevented the ship from capsizing in waters off the Odisha coast.

The Belize-flagged tanker, which was carrying approximately 9,000 tonnes of palm oil, was at immediate risk following the catastrophic engine breakdown. The flooding of the ballast tank significantly compromised the vessel's stability, raising concerns about a potential environmental disaster and loss of life among the 23 crew members aboard.
