Indian diplomats to attend Kandy Esala Perahera festival

Senior diplomatic officials stationed in the Indian capital have confirmed their participation in the Kandy Esala Perahera, the grand annual procession held in the historic hill city of Kandy during the Buddhist month of Esala.

The Perahera, which attracts thousands of devotees and visitors from across the globe, is one of the world's oldest and most significant Buddhist pageants. The festival, typically held in July or August, features elaborately decorated tusked elephants, traditional dancers, drummers, and fire-breathers parading through the streets of Kandy in a spectacular display of religious devotion and cultural heritage.

The confirmed attendance by Delhi-based diplomats reflects the robust cultural and diplomatic relations between India and Sri Lanka. The visit is expected to include formal interactions with Sri Lankan government officials and cultural representatives during the festival period.
