India's e-commerce sector is witnessing robust growth during the festive shopping season, with major platforms including Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho and Ajio collectively clocking over ₹24,000 crore in sales value in just the first 48 hours, according to consultancy firm Redseer Strategy Consultants.
The strong performance was underpinned by approximately 60-65 million shoppers placing 80-90 million orders across all platforms, signalling widening consumer participation and higher engagement levels. While mobile phones traditionally dominate festive season e-commerce in value terms, the sales pattern this year reveals a broader diversification of the shopping basket.
Beyond electronics, consumers are increasingly purchasing fashion items, appliances and other categories, with value-priced festive wear emerging as a standout performer. Shoppers from Tier 2 cities and smaller towns are proving particularly active, seeking accessible price points for seasonal clothing and accessories.
Associate Partner at Redseer Strategy Consultants Nikhil Dalal attributed the growth momentum to higher order volumes rather than increased average transaction values, reflecting a shift in purchasing behaviour. The performance suggests that festive season shopping is becoming more inclusive, spreading across geographies and product categories as e-commerce penetration deepens in smaller Indian markets.
