Indian man allegedly coerced into Ukraine combat after taking Russian job

An Indian family has raised alarm over allegations that their relative was lured to Russia under false pretenses and subsequently forced to participate in the war in Ukraine. Vinit Kumar Dubey, who was reportedly offered employment in Russia for approximately $1,200, has not been in contact with his family since October 7, his sister said.

According to the family's account, Dubey accepted what he believed to be a legitimate job opportunity and traveled to Russia. However, upon arrival, he allegedly faced pressure and coercion to enlist in military operations related to the Ukraine conflict. The family has received no phone calls or messages from him since early October, fueling concerns about his whereabouts and condition.

The case reflects growing concerns among Indian families about recruitment schemes targeting the country's citizens for overseas employment. Reports have emerged in recent months of Indian nationals being deceived into traveling to conflict zones or enlisting in foreign military operations through fraudulent job offers.

India's Ministry of External Affairs has not yet publicly commented on the specific case. However, the Indian government has previously urged its citizens to exercise caution when accepting employment offers abroad, particularly from unfamiliar sources or regions experiencing geopolitical tensions.
