Indian Naval Vessel Arrives in Vladivostok for Joint Exercises with Russia

The Indian Navy's guided-missile frigate INS Sahyadri has arrived in Vladivostok to take part in Exercise Indra-2026, a biennial bilateral naval exercise between India and Russia scheduled to run from October 13 to 18.

The arrival of the warship marks another milestone in the long-standing maritime partnership between the two countries. Exercise Indra, conducted alternatively in Indian and Russian waters, serves as a key platform for enhancing interoperability and operational coordination between the Indian Navy and the Russian Navy.

During the joint exercises, both navies will conduct surface and anti-submarine warfare drills, damage control operations, and various other tactical maneuvers. The exercise is designed to strengthen mutual understanding and operational capabilities in complex maritime environments.

The deployment reflects India's broader strategy to strengthen strategic partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region while deepening engagement with traditional allies. Such bilateral exercises also provide opportunities for personnel exchange and knowledge sharing on contemporary maritime security challenges.

Exercise Indra-2026 underscores the commitment of both nations to maintaining freedom of navigation and stability in the maritime domain, reinforcing their shared interests in regional security and cooperation.
