Ishanvi Sabniveesu has designed CareCane, an AI-powered walking cane engineered to enhance mobility and situational awareness for visually impaired users. The device combines obstacle detection with environmental description capabilities, allowing users to better understand their immediate surroundings through audio feedback.
A key feature of CareCane is its offline functionality, which enables the device to operate without internet connectivity. This design choice broadens accessibility for users in areas with limited digital infrastructure, addressing a critical gap in assistive technology deployment across diverse regions.
Beyond navigation support, CareCane incorporates emergency assistance features that allow users to call for help when needed. Sabniveesu's innovation was recognized with second place honors at the Invention Convention U.S. Nationals, a prestigious competition showcasing young inventors' technological breakthroughs. The developer is currently working on expanding CareCane's functionality and pursuing patent protection for the device, with plans to refine features based on user feedback and technical advancements.
