Ashoke Sen has received the Oskar Klein Medal, one of the highest international distinctions in theoretical physics, for his transformative work across multiple domains of modern physics.

Sen's research has fundamentally advanced understanding of string theory, a framework attempting to unify quantum mechanics and general relativity. His pioneering contributions include the development of S-duality, a concept describing how certain physical systems can be understood equivalently from different mathematical perspectives. This theoretical insight has proven essential to progress in string theory and quantum field theory.

Beyond S-duality, Sen has made significant strides in precisely calculating black-hole entropy, a problem that has occupied theoretical physicists for decades. His contributions to string field theory have further consolidated modern string theory's mathematical foundations, influencing how physicists conceptualise fundamental forces and particles.

The Oskar Klein Medal, awarded annually by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, recognises outstanding scientific achievements in theoretical physics. Sen's selection places him among an elite cohort of physicists whose work has reshaped contemporary understanding of the universe's fundamental structure. The award reflects both his individual scientific excellence and India's increasing role in advancing theoretical physics research at the highest international level.
