Indian police have seized 19.8 kilograms of hashish that was being smuggled to Sri Lanka, marking a significant drug interception in Tamil Nadu. Acting on intelligence inputs, a law enforcement team led by Inspector David Ravirajan and Sub-Inspector Ramesh conducted an operation near Pasipattinam beach in Ramanathapuram district, securing a suspect identified as Mano.
The arrest was made as part of enhanced vigilance in the region to intercept contraband destined for neighbouring countries. Officials said the operation underscores the continued threat posed by drug trafficking networks operating across the waters between India and Sri Lanka.
The hashish seizure adds to growing concerns about narcotics smuggling through southern coastal zones. Authorities have intensified patrols and intelligence-gathering operations to stem the flow of illicit substances, particularly in areas with maritime access.
The suspect is being interrogated to determine the full scope of the smuggling network and identify other individuals involved in the operation. Police indicated that further investigations are underway to trace the supply chain and potential recipients of the consignment in Sri Lanka.
