Indian Railways deploys Kavach 4.0 safety system on South Central route

Indian Railways has commissioned Kavach 4.0, an enhanced automatic train protection system, on the Malkajgiri-Kamareddi section of South Central Railway. The deployment covers 108 route kilometres and represents the first operational implementation of the upgraded safety technology on the network.

Kavach 4.0 is designed to automatically prevent train collisions and derailments by monitoring train movement and enforcing speed restrictions when necessary. The system operates independently of lineside signals, providing an additional layer of safety for rail operations. By automatically intervening when safety parameters are breached, the technology aims to reduce human error-related accidents.

The successful commissioning on South Central Railway demonstrates the maturity of the indigenous safety system and paves the way for broader rollout. Indian Railways has outlined plans to expand Kavach 4.0 deployment across additional routes and railway zones, with the technology expected to become a standard feature across the network.
