Indian Railways is reportedly considering the launch of an additional Vande Bharat sleeper train that would operate to Mumbai via Hubballi, marking another expansion of the successful semi-high speed service line. The move comes as the railway ministry continues to modernise its passenger fleet with the indigenously-developed Vande Bharat trainsets, which combine comfort with improved travel times.
The proposed sleeper variant would cater to overnight travel demands on routes connecting the southern peninsula to Mumbai, India's financial hub. By routing through Hubballi, the service would enhance connectivity for passengers across Karnataka while providing access to the western coast.
Vande Bharat trains have gained popularity since their initial rollout, with the sleeper variants proving particularly attractive for long-distance night journeys. These trainsets feature contemporary amenities, improved energy efficiency, and reduced journey times compared to conventional rolling stock.
The introduction of this service aligns with Indian Railways' broader modernisation agenda and efforts to upgrade overnight travel infrastructure. If approved, the new sleeper train would join the existing fleet of Vande Bharat services operating across various Indian routes, further establishing the platform as a cornerstone of the national transporter's premium service offerings.
