Indian Railways sets monthly ticket booking limits for IRCTC users

Frequent rail travelers in India need to be aware of booking restrictions on the IRCTC online portal when purchasing tickets for themselves or family members. The national railway ticketing system enforces a monthly limit on the number of tickets a single user can reserve through their account.
Unverified IRCTC user accounts face a more restrictive ceiling, with users able to book a maximum of 12 tickets per month through the platform. Many ticket holders encounter a notification blocking further bookings once this threshold is reached within a calendar month.
However, users who have completed Aadhaar verification on their IRCTC accounts enjoy a higher booking limit of 24 tickets monthly. This higher ceiling applies specifically to verified account holders and allows greater flexibility for those who travel frequently or need to book tickets for multiple family members on a regular basis.
The distinction between verified and unverified accounts reflects the IRCTC's approach to managing platform load while encouraging users to complete identity verification. For regular commuters and families that frequently book rail tickets, completing Aadhaar authentication on an IRCTC account effectively doubles the monthly booking allowance and provides greater convenience for travel planning.
