Indian Railways to Enforce ID Document Checks From October 1

Passengers boarding trains under Central Railway's jurisdiction from October 1 will need to carry valid identification documents in addition to their tickets, as part of a new enforcement campaign announced by the rail authority.

The special ticket-checking drive will target travelers availing concessional fares, special reservation quotas, e-passes, and Privilege Ticket Orders (PTO). Railway officials will be authorized to demand original identity proofs and supporting documentation from these passengers during ticket inspections on board trains and at stations.

The move is intended to curb misuse of concessional and special quota provisions by ensuring that only eligible passengers utilize these ticketing categories. Travelers are advised to ensure they carry the necessary identification documents to avoid potential complications during their journeys.

Passengers are urged to check the specific documentation requirements based on their ticket category well in advance of their travel dates. The initiative underscores the railway's commitment to streamlining its ticketing verification processes across the network.
