Indian rupee rallies to six-month peak as dollar weakens

The Indian rupee extended its recovery on Wednesday, touching a six-month high of 94.06 per dollar as weakness in the US currency provided tailwinds for emerging market assets.

The rupee opened at 94.50 in morning trade, initially softening by 9 paise from the previous session's close of 94.41. However, sustained selling pressure on the dollar helped the domestic unit stage a comeback, enabling it to reclaim lost ground through the day's trading session.

The rupee's performance reflects a broader retreat in the US dollar following the midterm elections, which have typically sparked shifts in market positioning and currency flows. A softer greenback has historically benefited Asian currencies, including the rupee, as investors reassess growth and interest rate trajectories.

Market participants are monitoring whether the rupee can sustain this level amid persistent global uncertainties and domestic economic data releases. The currency's movement comes at a time when the Reserve Bank of India has maintained focus on managing volatility while supporting export competitiveness.

The rupee's six-month high signals growing confidence in the domestic economy's relative stability, though analysts remain watchful of any resurgence in dollar demand that could reverse recent gains.
