Indian stock exchanges to remain shut for Ganesh Chaturthi

India's two major stock exchanges—the NSE and BSE—will remain closed on Monday, September 14, 2024, for the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, one of the most significant celebrations in the Hindu calendar.

During the closure, all trading and settlement activities across both exchanges will be halted. This includes the cash equity segment, derivatives market, and the securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segment operated by both bourses.

Ganesh Chaturthi, celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesha, is observed with fervent devotion across India, particularly in Maharashtra and other parts of South and West India. The festival typically lasts for ten days, with the main observance marked by the installation of clay idols and community gatherings.

Market participants and traders have been notified of the closure to ensure compliance with settlement obligations and to allow proper planning for their investment portfolios. The exchanges are expected to resume normal operations on the subsequent trading day.

Investors and brokers are advised to factor the extended weekend into their trading strategies and ensure adequate liquidity management ahead of the closure.
