Indian Teen's AI System Earns $100,000 Davidson Fellowship

Aditya Sengupta, an Indian-origin teenager, has been recognized for his work in aerospace innovation with the Davidson Fellow Laureate honour and a $100,000 scholarship from the United States. The 18-year-old developed ForeCAT, an AI-based system designed to forecast clear-air turbulence with improved precision.

Clear-air turbulence, which occurs in cloudless skies and poses significant challenges to aviation safety and passenger comfort, has traditionally been difficult to predict. Sengupta's AI-driven solution represents a meaningful advance in addressing this problem, combining machine learning capabilities with meteorological data to enhance forecasting accuracy.

The Davidson Fellow programme, known for identifying and supporting exceptional young innovators, selected Sengupta for his groundbreaking work. The award recognizes outstanding contributions from individuals 18 and under across fields including STEM, literature, music and philosophy.

Sengupta's achievement reflects growing contributions from young Indian talent to global technological advancement.
